Real Madrid winger Vinicius Jr. has dominated conversations on social media following his reaction to being substituted during their 4-3 win over AS Roma in the UEFA Champions League on October 15, 2026.
Los Blancos started the game sluggishly, with the home side taking the lead through Marten de Roon early in the second half. However, Kylian Mbappe quickly equalised for Real Madrid.
As the game progressed, Donyell Malen scored a brace early in the second half, leaving Real Madrid trailing as the match approached the 80th minute.

Head coach Jose Mourinho then made substitutions, bringing on Endrick, Carlos Espi and Arda Guler while taking off Vinicius and other key players.
As the Brazilian winger left the pitch, he walked past his manager and was spotted murmuring and complaining before taking his seat in the dugout. He was reportedly heard saying, “Why did he sub me?”
His reaction sparked backlash from some football fans on social media, who argued that Vinicius’ attitude towards being substituted was unwarranted and urged him to change his behaviour.
Others argued that Mourinho was right to take him off because he had been underperforming since the beginning of the season and did not deserve to start ahead of his teammates.
The majority of fans backed the Portuguese manager’s decision and urged him to discipline Vinicius if he continued to misbehave, warning that such behaviour could affect the squad, as they believed it had during Xabi Alonso’s tenure as Real Madrid coach.

— Marqwo (@marqoball) October 15, 2026@theMadridZone @JosePadi_ IT IS TIME FOR REAL MADRID TO PART WAYS WITH THIS STUPID EGOISTIC USELESS FOOTBALLER.. HIS EGO WON'T ALLOW HIM RECOVER THE BEST VERSION OF HIMSELF, THINKING HE IS BIGGER THAN SUBSTITUTION OR REAL MADRID 🦻🏽🦻🏽🤔🤔 MADRID SHOULD SELL VINI Jr. ✅✅
— MT2 (@madrid_total2) October 14, 2026@theMadridZone @JosePadi_ that nigga is not serious i love Vini to the core but he's too much of a cry baby for fuck sake bro we need a win, coach sees that it's not working out for you and truly it wasn't, and you are asking why? look at the fucking mistake you made that led to Malen's second goal🤦♂️
— YAW AGBƐT (@papa_payin) October 15, 2026@TouchlineX Because you’re playing horrible.
— MonovMMA (@SurgeonSaxon) October 14, 2026@theMadridZone @JosePadi_ Vini is playing nothing, yet he has the audacity to question why he was substituted? At Real Madrid, performance must speak louder than reputation. Nobody is bigger than the badge. If you’re not delivering on the pitch, accept the decision and work harder..
— Ken Kaniff (@KenKaniffV) October 14, 2026@theMadridZone @JosePadi_ Hello @vinijr, stop questioning the manager’s decisions. Why do you keep doing this? This is Mourinho, not Xabi Alonso. Show some respect for the manager and stop repeating the same behaviour you showed towards Xabi.
— Ramzul Majdan Yaman (@RamzulMajdan) October 15, 2026@TouchlineX He subbed him off because he’s not good enough. And make sure that statement doesn’t reach Mourinho cos he will be benched again.
— Musa_Ug🇺🇬 (@Musa_moh256) October 14, 2026Hi Vini, you need to realize that you aren’t in great form; the coach has the right to substitute any player. You need to work harder to get back to your best level—your performances just aren’t up to scratch, Vini. I don’t know if anyone else feels uncomfortable telling you this, but take a good, honest look at yourself, Vini: we need the Vini who delivered such exceptional performances in 2024. 💪 Hala Madrid.
— Farley Madridista (@AlcideFarley) October 14, 2026@theMadridZone @JosePadi_ He really needs to handle these moments better. Real Madrid is bigger than any single player, and constantly throwing fits on the pitch every time the board comes up just creates unnecessary drama for the squad
— WuntiMUFC (@AdamWunti) October 14, 2026@theMadridZone @JosePadi_ he should please leave the club. i’m tired of defending him. grown ass man going for a chin surgery 🤦♂️
