Once lovebirds, now apart: The Obinims’ old vows about their God-ordained marriage
Gospel musician Florence Obinim once described her marriage to Bishop Daniel Obinim as a union ordained by God, while the preacher vowed never to rebuke her in front of his congregation.
Years later, their once-public declarations of love and respect have taken on a different meaning amid a bitter separation and reported divorce settlement demands.
The resurfacing of the couple’s old remarks comes as their marital dispute continues to attract public attention, with reports of traditional divorce proceedings, disagreements over property and financial support, and Bishop Obinim’s public comments about his estranged wife.
In one of her past statements, Florence, who has since rebranded herself as Queen Florence, the Lioness, insisted that she had no regrets about marrying the founder of the International God’s Way Church, despite criticism from some members of the public.
“I feel bad when people are talking ill about my husband, Bishop Obinim. I will never regret saying I married him,” she said.
According to Florence, she and the preacher sought divine direction before deciding to marry, a decision she believes was central to the longevity of their relationship.
“When my husband Obinim proposed marriage to me, we all agreed to seek answers from God. A lot of people do not understand this; my marriage is direct from God. That is why my marriage is still working,” she stated.
Florence also recounted that she was attending Assemblies of God when several men were interested in marrying her. However, she said her desire to have a partner who would support her spiritual growth influenced her decision.
“I have never thought of seeking divorce because this marriage is from God,” she added in the video shared years ago.
Bishop Obinim, for his part, once expressed his determination to protect his wife from public humiliation, drawing a biblical comparison to explain his position.
“I can never rebuke my wife [Florence] in front of the congregation,” he declared.
He referred to the biblical account of Joseph and Mary, explaining that Joseph initially considered ending his relationship with Mary privately before an angel intervened.
“Because when you read Genesis, it states, ‘And Joseph made up his mind to leave Mary in secret. And the Angel of the Lord revealed to him that he should stop the idea you've conceived in your mind about Mary because she is carrying the Holy Spirit,’” he said.
The couple’s old declarations have resurfaced against the backdrop of their reported marital breakdown, which has generated widespread discussion on social media and raised questions about what went wrong in a relationship they once presented as divinely ordained.
Florence Obinim’s reported divorce settlement demands
The dispute has also taken a financial and property-related turn, with reports that Florence is seeking a substantial settlement as part of the divorce proceedings.
On October 13, 2026, Bishop Obinim reportedly read out what he described as his estranged wife’s demands during a church service in Tema. The list, according to media reports, includes financial compensation, properties and continuing financial support.
Among the reported demands are a lump-sum payment, ownership of residential and commercial properties, and allowances to cover personal and medical expenses.
The reported claims include
Financial compensation Reports have cited figures of GH¢2 million
An Accra property A property at House No. 99 Nii Kwei Mensah Street.
An apartment complex Ownership of a multi-unit property in Accra.
Abroso Guest House The guesthouse, which reports say was recently damaged by fire.
A residence in Barcelona, Spain The couple’s reported property in Spain.
Medical support A reported request for GH¢10,000 monthly for medical expenses, alongside additional support for hospitalisation.
The International God’s Way Church building in Tema The church property was also mentioned in reports of the demands.
Other media accounts have listed additional assets and financial requests, including vehicles and recurring personal allowances.
However, the published accounts differ on some details, making it important to distinguish between the demands attributed to Florence and any reliefs ultimately granted by a court.
The list was made public through Bishop Obinim’s account of the documents he presented to his congregation. The claims have not been independently verified against the complete court filings, and the final outcome of the reported proceedings remains unknown.
Traditional divorce reports deepen the controversy
The property dispute follows reports that Florence’s family returned the traditional drinks presented during the marriage rites to Bishop Obinim’s family, a move widely interpreted as an indication that they intended to end the customary marriage.
Media personality Ola Michael previously reported the development on Neat FM, attributing the information to a member of the bishop’s family. The report suggested that the family was dissatisfied with the alleged disrespect and public embarrassment surrounding the relationship.
The reported return of the drinks added another dimension to the controversy, shifting attention from speculation about the couple’s relationship to the possible formal end of their customary union.
Meanwhile, Bishop Obinim has faced criticism over his public comments about Florence and the reported settlement demands. His remarks have intensified public discussion about whether marital disagreements should be aired before a congregation or handled privately.
The dispute has also renewed debate about the treatment of spouses during marital breakdowns, particularly when both parties are prominent public figures whose private disagreements attract intense media scrutiny.
For many observers, the contrast between Florence’s former insistence that she would never seek a divorce and Bishop Obinim’s pledge never to rebuke her publicly has become a striking feature of the unfolding story.
Their old statements remain part of the public record, but they do not, on their own, explain the circumstances that led to the reported separation.
What is now clear is that a marriage once described by Florence as a union directly ordained by God has become the subject of a highly publicised dispute involving separation, property claims and financial demands.
Whether the couple can resolve their differences privately or through the courts remains to be seen. For now, their former declarations of love and spiritual commitment continue to be measured against the realities of their reported marital breakdown.
