Blinded by a Gun: Stray bullet victim recounts how he was shot in the eyes
A young Ghanaian man identified as Winfred has recounted how he was shot on March 9, 2020, while returning from the bank, describing the confusion and panic that followed the horrible incident.
In a video circulating on social media and sighted by GhanaWeb on Thursday, October 15 2026, Winfred narrated how he had boarded a commercial bus (trotro) and was getting out of the vehicle when gunfire erupted.
According to him, he was caught off guard by the incident and initially struggled to understand what was happening.
“The moment I got down from the car, a guy was standing there. Before I knew what was happening, there was a gunshot,” he recounted.
Winfred said the incident threw people into confusion, with several individuals moving around amid the chaos.
He explained that while trying to make sense of the situation, he heard another gunshot.
“Everybody run amid the chaos. Everyone was moving about, and then, before I could even say ‘Jack’, I heard another shot,” he said.
Describing the severity of his injuries, Winfred said it felt as though a curtain had been drawn across his face, with blood covering him following the shooting.
“It was just like someone had drawn a curtain all over my face. There was blood everywhere,” he added. Another piece of footage captured moments after the gunshot, with Winfred seated on the floor covered in blood.
The circumstances surrounding the incident, including the identity of the alleged shooter and the motive behind the attack, were not established in his account.
However, the incident has renewed calls for authorities to review existing laws on gun violence.
