Wontumi’s incarceration should teach those in power lessons - Baba Jamal
Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East, Baba Jamal, has urged political actors to take lessons from Chairman Wontumi’s incarceration.
According to him, power is transient and not ultimate, and therefore those who have power should be careful of how they use it.
“Power is ultimate, no; power is transient, so we need to be careful when we are in power, whatever position you are in. Today even if you are a chief, you are a politician, you are an MP you need to know that there is a day of accountability, and we all have to be careful,” he said.
Adding that “What happened to our brother Wontumi should be a lesson to all of us. All of you will agree that at a point my brother thought that there will not be a day of reckoning. But it came finally.
The wheels of Justice grind gradually, but it definitely gets there. It is a lesson to all of us. We pray that he’s able to endure it and if he has any defense, he will be able to go through it,” he stated.
Chairman Wontumi has been sentenced to twenty years in prison. However, his lawyers have filed for bail pending appeal, which was heard today.
The ruling on the bail application has be set for November 4, 2026.
