Ghana attacker Ernest Nuamah scores as Lyon beat Crystal Palace
Ghanaian midfielder Ernest Nuamah was on target as Olympique Lyonnais secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over Crystal Palace in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday night.
The French side claimed all three points at the Groupama Stadium on October 15, with Nuamah finding the net in first-half stoppage time to strengthen Lyon’s advantage.
Lyon captain Corentin Tolisso opened the scoring in the eighth minute, reacting quickest inside the penalty area to convert following a corner kick.
Nuamah then doubled the hosts’ lead in the 45th minute, finishing a delivery from Japanese winger Keito Nakamura with a left-footed effort into the bottom corner.
Crystal Palace responded five minutes after the restart when Yeremy Pino pulled one back, converting Adam Wharton’s through ball to reduce the deficit.
Lyon restored their two-goal cushion in the 76th minute through substitute Pavel Šulc, who finished Nakamura’s assist to make it 3-1.
Palace midfielder Daichi Kamada scored in the 81st minute to set up a tense finale, but Lyon held on to secure victory.
Lyon will now turn their attention to domestic action when they face Nice in Ligue 1 on October 18, 2026.
