‘We are proud to have him’ – NDC official backs Juaben secretary amid allegations
The Acting Director of Elections of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mahdi Gibril, has said that the party is proud to have the services of interdicted Obuasi SHS headmaster Zakaria Abdulai who serves as the Juaben Constituency Secretary for the party.
According to a 3news.com report published on October 16, 2026, Gibril said in an interview on GhanaAkoma that Zakaria, who is under police investigation, had served as the party’s constituency secretary and performed his duties.

“What I know is that I have a competent secretary at Juaben, and the party is proud to have him,” he said.
Gibril further stated that Zakaria’s bid for the party’s chairmanship would be affected if investigations into the allegations against him establish his guilt.
He explained that even if Zakaria wins the contest, he would not be allowed to retain the position if he is found guilty.
“If the outcome of the investigation proves that he is guilty, he will not hold the chairmanship position despite winning. On the other hand, he will continue to serve when proven innocent,” he stated.
He further questioned the timing and circumstances surrounding the allegations, cautioning against drawing conclusions before the investigations are completed.

“Don't be surprised if these sexual allegations disappear after our elections on October 24. There is a possibility that they could be part of an agenda against him, but only time will tell,” he said.
