Dear GhanaWeb: I can’t stop having diarrhoea after swearing I didn’t cheat on my wife
Dear GhanaWeb,
I am a married man in my 30s, and frankly speaking, I think I have landed myself in serious trouble because of a careless statement I made to my wife.
Last Saturday, I went out to spend some time with one of my side girls. Before leaving home, I told my wife I was going out with a male friend, but from the way she reacted, I could tell she did not believe me.
Throughout the time I was away, she kept calling me, but because I was with my girlfriend, it was difficult for me to answer her calls.
I only called her back after I had finished spending time with the lady and left her, but my wife refused to answer.
When I got home, she was not talking to me. It was obvious she suspected I had been with another woman, but I tried to act innocent.
When that did not work, I became angry and accused her of having a problem with me hanging out with my male friends. I made it seem as though she always got upset whenever I went out and returned home.
She still refused to talk to me, but what happened later that night was something I never expected.
While I was taking my bath, my wife entered the bathroom holding my boxer shorts.
She sniffed my boxer shorts several times and even asked me to smell them myself because, according to her, she could smell another woman on them.
She also pointed out some dried semen on the underwear as evidence that something was not right.
I still denied everything and even called her crazy for making such accusations. Out of frustration, I eventually said something I now deeply regret.
I swore that I had not been with another woman and added that if I was lying, may I keep having diarrhoea until I told her the truth.
At the time, I said it out of anger. I did not mean it, and I certainly did not believe that anything would happen to me because of those words.
Unfortunately, later that night, I started having diarrhoea, and it has not stopped since.
As I write this, I have visited the toilet about 30 times. The situation has become so embarrassing that I have been avoiding using the toilet at home because I do not want my wife to notice what is happening to me.
I have been using public toilets instead, and at one point yesterday, I even went to visit my brother and stayed there for some time.
I have taken about 15 pieces of Colodium and have also drunk oral rehydration solution, but the diarrhoea keeps getting worse. I am currently at work, but I can barely concentrate because I spend most of my time running to the toilet.
I am beginning to look sick and pale, and I honestly do not know how much longer I can keep this from my wife.
The most frightening part is that I am beginning to wonder whether the words I spoke to my wife have somehow come back to haunt me.
I know I lied to her, and I know I should not have sworn to something I knew was untrue, but I never expected to find myself in this situation.
I am also afraid of what will happen when my wife discovers the truth. She will be extremely angry if she finds out that I cheated on her and then lied about it.
At this point, I do not even know whether I should confess everything or continue trying to hide what happened.
Could my careless words really have caused this, or is something else happening to me, and how do I get myself out of this situation before my wife discovers everything? I need your help, please.
