The New York Police Department (NYPD) has disclosed that it is investigating possible bullying, a robbery gone wrong and mistaken identity as part of its investigations into the killing of 15-year-old Ghanaian boy Javits Frimpong. In a video shared by American news outlet ABC7NY on November 2, 2026, NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny provided an update on the investigation into the teenager’s death. Bawumia, NPP-USA New York chapter mourn late Javits Frimpong Javits was shot dead on the morning of Thursday, October 30, 2026, while reportedly making his way to school. According to him, investigators are exploring different possible motives for the killing, including whether the teenager was targeted by a rival gang member who mistook him for someone else. He said the police were also working with the Department of Education to establish whether Javits had been bullied at school. "Right now we're looking at, you know, the possibility that the child was being bullied at school. We're working with the Department of Education to verify that, but we're also looking at two other aspects. "Could this child have been the victim of a robbery gone bad, or was this a case of mistaken identity where a rival gang member thought he was the opposition?" he said. Kenny described the killing as a senseless act of violence, adding that preliminary indications suggested Javits was a good child. He said the NYPD was maintaining contact with the victim's family, particularly his father, and providing him with regular updates on the investigation.
