‘Talent is not enough; you need to be business-minded’ – Bisa Kdei advises musicians

Ghanaian highlife musician Bisa Kdei has advised upcoming artistes to look beyond talent and prioritise good management, financial discipline and business-minded decisions if they want to sustain their music careers. Speaking in an interview on Atinka FM on November 3, 2026, the musician said talent alone was not enough to guarantee long-term success in the entertainment industry. According to him, artistes need a small but reliable team of people who can offer honest advice, correct their mistakes and support their professional growth. “Talent is not enough. You need to be smart and surround yourself with the right people. You need business-minded individuals who can correct you when you go wrong. “You don't need a large team; one or two solid people who believe in you and are honest with you are better than a crowd of people who cannot tell you the truth,” he said. Bisa Kdei further urged musicians to develop additional sources of income rather than relying solely on the fame and money that come with their careers. ‘We have an identity problem’ - Bisa Kdei calls for highlife revival He noted that popularity does not last forever, making it important for artistes to plan their finances and invest in other ventures while they are still enjoying success. “Beyond the fame, what will you eat when the fame is gone? You need to be business-minded. That is why I always say you should have a side hustle. When you spend money, you must plan,” he stated. The musician also cautioned artistes against spending excessively just to impress others, stressing that personal financial decisions should be guided by individual goals rather than public expectations. He said his difficult experiences before attaining success had taught him not to waste time trying to impress people. “I have experienced hunger, and I know what I went through to get to where I am today. So why should I spend my time worrying about impressing someone? I don't care about doing things just to please people,” he added. View this post on Instagram
