Galamsey Fight: NAIMOS to receive GH¢200 million in 2027 budget - Schandorf
The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) is expected to receive GH¢200 million in the 2027 national budget to strengthen its operations and intensify the fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.
The Secretariat’s spokesperson, Paa Kwesi Schandorf, disclosed this during an interview with Joy News, stating that the government has put in place an elaborate plan to ensure that NAIMOS receives adequate financial and logistical support to effectively execute its mandate.
According to him, President John Dramani Mahama has assured the Secretariat of a GH¢200 million allocation in the 2027 budget to support its operations.
“There's a very elaborate plan to ensure that NAIMOS is adequately resourced. Indeed, a very elaborate plan is in place. So, as we speak, for example, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama has assured that GH¢200 million will be committed to NAIMOS in the 2027 budget,” Schandorf stated.
He explained that the proposed allocation, guided by the Secretariat’s operational strategy, would be sufficient to provide the necessary resources for its personnel to confront illegal mining activities.
“Based on our operational strategy, that will be more than adequate to ensure that the team is well-resourced to confront some of these issues as and when they come,” he added.
