'You can't put our Kente on the ground, it's for kings' – Made in Ghana to Carter Efe

Videos from Nigerian content creator Carter Efe’s livestream with Ghanaian streamer Made in Ghana have continued to dominate conversations online. In one of the latest clips making the rounds on social media, Carter Efe attempted to spread a traditional Ghanaian Kente cloth on the ground so his girlfriend could walk on it to their waiting car. “Commot there, my babe wan enter motor. Commot there,” Carter Efe was heard saying in pidgin as he laid the cloth on the floor. Made in Ghana then quickly intervened, snatching the Kente away while explaining that it was inappropriate to place the revered cloth on the ground. “No bro, you can’t put this one down oo. No, it’s for kings,” Made in Ghana told him. Seemingly frustrated, Carter Efe tried to retrieve the cloth, insisting that the Ghanaian streamer was interfering with his relationship. “Which one be say it’s for kings? You wan spoil my relationship,” he replied in pidgin as he attempted to grab the Kente back. Made in Ghana, however, stood his ground and refused to hand over the cloth. Then Carter Efe asked bystanders whether Kente is indeed a respected cloth and they confirmed that it holds significant cultural value. He then abandoned his attempt to use it. The moment has since gone viral, with many social media users praising Made in Ghana for protecting the cultural significance of the Kente cloth while educating Carter Efe on its importance. PAT/EB
