Newark, NJ -- Nana Attah Boamah, a Ghanaian politician, a community leader and a
businessman resident in the City of Newark, NJ was recently among 7 Africans
who were sworn in by the City of Newark Mayor, Honorable Corey A. Booker as
members of the African Commission in the City of Newark. The African
Commission was created by Mayor Corey Booker and the Newark Municipal City
Council to champion the cause of Africans in the diaspora. Mayor Booker
called the event, "historical day in our city".
Addressing the packed audience briefly at the Chambers, he said, there may
be an ocean that separate us but the blood that runs through is deeper than
the ocean. Every human being traces itself to Africa, the first place where
complex mathematics and geometry started. The first people to understand
the moment of the sun, We are a city that cannot have love without loving
one another. Many young people have forgotten the greatest civilization of
the planet. Too many African Americans have lost because of not knowing
their traces to their ancestors. He challenged the African Commission to
work hard and champion its cause to unite Africans and African Americans in
the City of Newark. "Just like Africa, Newark will rise again" he said.
Senator Barack Obama, US Presidential Aspirant (D) from Chicago, IL sent a
congratulatory message to the African Commission which read; "I want to
congratulate you on forming the African Commission in Newark. The people in
Newark and the people of Africa face many challenges, and by building and
strengthening relationships, both people can benefit. The Commission's
objective of fostering relationships through educational, cultural
exchanges, and economic development is a laudable one and I wish you great
success. Mayor Corey Booker is a visionary leader and I'm honored to have
his support"
There were many dignitaries representing many African countries. Also an
inspiring reading entitled; I am an African by a South African; Vilele
Notshulwana, PHD, drew a huge round of applause and a standing ovation. He
said it was a proud moment for Africa. Many well wishers and friends of Nana
Attah Boamah had come to offer their support to the community leader who is
well admired by City Hall for his tireless effort in making that historical
day a dream in the City of Newark.
The Chambers was also filled with dignitaries and from various African
Countries, community leaders and people from all walks of life.
Congratulations to Commissioner Attah Boamoah for a well deserved
achievement and making Ghana and Mother Africa proud. A huge round of
applause and standing ovation to Mayor Corey Booker for his vision, Members
of the Municipal City Council led by its Council President Mildred C. Crump
(proudly told this writer, she would be visiting Ghana soon) and the newly
sworn in African Commissioners on this historical occasion in the City of
Newark. Interestingly and historically how times have changed. The rotunda
of the Newark City Hall which filled with the smell of African food; a taste
of Africa as expressed by one of the Commissioners. "This day and place in
the City Hall, belongs to Africa so eat what comes from Africa and enjoy
this historical day.
MOTHER AFRICA NOW GETS THE RECOGNITION SHE DESERVES - A GREAT DAY IN THE
