Dear GhanaWeb: My boyfriend got me pregnant and disappeared without a trace

Dear GhanaWeb,

Last year, I started dating a man who made me believe he genuinely loved me. For the first five months of our relationship, he never mentioned that he was married. We spent time together, became intimate several times, and I was convinced we were building a future.

Then one day, I received a call from a woman who introduced herself as his wife. She asked me to end my relationship with him because they were married and had children together. I was shocked but didn't know what to believe, so I confronted him and even showed him the number that called me.

He laughed it off and claimed the woman was just a bitter ex who always tried to ruin his relationships whenever she found out he was seeing someone. I believed him until the woman called again. This time, she insulted me and warned me to stay away from her husband or face the consequences.

I told him about the second call, and he repeated the same story that she was only an ex trying to cause trouble. But then something occurred to me. If she was only an ex, how did she get my number from his phone? That was when I started asking more questions.

Instead of reassuring me, he became angry and told me that if I didn't trust him, I could simply end the relationship. For reasons I still don't understand, I chose to stay.

In November last year, I found out I was pregnant. When I told him, he was excited and encouraged me to keep the baby. He even said we would get married.

Hearing that made me believe he was serious and I thought all my doubts were unnecessary.

I invested everything into the relationship. Whenever he needed money, I helped him. He once asked to borrow GH₵6,000, but I gave him GH₵10,000 and told him he didn't have to pay me back.

My laptop and several other valuables were also with him.

Everything seemed normal until 24th February this year. He told me he was traveling to Suhum to introduce our relationship to his family and that afterward he would invite me to meet them. That was the last time I heard from him.

Since that day, his phone has been unreachable. I don't know where he lives because he always claimed he stayed with a friend in Accra while his home was in Suhum.

I later realized he had even managed to delete all his pictures from my phone. I searched for him on social media using the name he gave me, but I found nothing. Now I suspect he wasn't even using his real name.

Out of desperation, I called the same number the woman had used when she claimed to be his wife.

She answered, and after listening to my story, she laughed. She reminded me that she had warned me and that I chose not to listen. Then she hung up and blocked my number.

Today, I am almost seven months pregnant, struggling financially, and heartbroken. He disappeared with my money, my valuables, and every trace of his identity. I honestly don't know where to turn from here.

Where do I start from? How should I go about this? I need help, please.
