'Ensure your appointees deliver' – GFL's Koomson tells Mahama

The Secretary‑General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), Abraham Koomson, has urged President John Dramani Mahama to establish a strong monitoring structure to ensure government appointees effectively implement his policies and programmes. Koomson argued that some appointees appear more focused on the privileges of office than on diligently executing the administration’s initiatives. Speaking on Ahotor FM’s Yepe Ahunu programme on Saturday, August 22, 2026, Koomson gave an emotional account of losing his 44‑year‑old son, who passed away at the International Maritime Hospital (IMaH) in Tema after a period of illness. He said the high cost of treatment made him particularly interested in the government’s MahamaCares initiative, officially known as the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF), which was introduced to provide financial support for Ghanaians suffering from chronic and non‑communicable diseases.
