'That broke me!' - Delay recounts how visa rejection shattered her in 2006

Ghanaian media personality, Deloris Frimpong Manso, popularly known as Delay, has recounted the emotional trauma she went through in 2006 while battling career uncertainty. In a post shared on Instagram and sighted by GhanaWeb on August 24, 2026, Delay revealed that she attempted to travel abroad to seek greener pastures in Germany during the 2006 FIFA World Cup. According to the acclaimed media personality, although she was working at Top Radio at the time, she was unhappy with her job. She had become determined to leave Ghana, using the World Cup as an opportunity to travel. 'I cherish her so much' - Andy Dosty speaks about his bond with Delay Delay explained that although she continued showing up for work, her heart was no longer in the media profession. “In 2006, the World Cup was in Germany. The World Cup was on, and I was on the radio at Top Radio. But my heart was elsewhere. I wanted to leave. “I walked into that embassy with a dream folded in an envelope, a visa, a one-way ticket, and a plan to go and never come back. I wanted to seek greener pastures,” she said. Delay further recounted how the visa denial left her devastated, especially after a former classmate who had promised to accommodate her in Germany stopped answering her calls. Delay fires back at troll over childbirth comment According to her, the silence from her classmate taught her an important lesson about life. “They said no. That broke me. I had a classmate who had promised me a corner to sleep if I made it. After the refusal, I called her. And called, and called. She never answered again. “That silence was louder than the refusal. I cried then; I didn’t understand it then. But now I know that sometimes God says no because He has built you to become the greener pasture others will travel to find,” she added.
