'Don’t compare yourself to anybody' - Medikal shares advice

Ghanaian rapper Medikal has urged people to stop measuring their progress against others, stressing that true growth comes from comparing one’s present achievements to their past.

Speaking in videos circulating online, the award-winning musician said people often fail to appreciate how far they have come because they are too focused on what others have accomplished.

“I compare myself to myself, but when you compare yourself to other people. Compare yourself to how things were last year, two years ago, three years ago, five years ago. Don’t compare yourself to somebody who is living a different life now,” he said.

Using his own journey as an example, Medikal said he reflects on his progress from the days he drove a Toyota Camry to where he is today, noting that he can now comfortably afford luxuries and even gift cars to others.

“I calculate it from the time I was driving a Camry. Right now, I can do certain things and even buy cars for people. That’s growth be that,” he said

The rapper warned that comparing oneself to successful personalities without understanding the struggles behind their achievements can lead to unnecessary frustration.

“If you compare yourself to someone like Shatta, you’ll say by now you should be driving a Rolls-Royce. But the hustle and hardship Shatta went through before buying that Rolls-Royce, you haven’t been through it. If you try to force it, you’ll run into problems,” he explained.

Medikal therefore encouraged people to live within their means while remaining focused on gradual improvement.

“Don’t do pass yourself. Don’t compare yourself to anybody. Reach your level, know what you can afford and keep climbing higher,” he advised.

He concluded by reminding people that everyone’s journey is different, making comparisons both unfair and unhelpful.

“You don’t know what the other person has been through or where they came from. None of us has the same story, so don’t stress yourself too much,” he added.
