'Is this Mahama's government?' – Charles Owusu fumes over Sammy Gyamfi's remarks

Former Head of Monitoring at the Forestry Commission, Rev Charles Owusu, has expressed concern over recent remarks by the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, directed at the Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin. According to Rev Owusu, the administration of President John Dramani Mahama appears to have changed compared to how it began, particularly in terms of the President’s expectations of his appointees. Commenting on Gyamfi’s recent response to Afenyo-Markin over allegations of financial losses at GoldBod, Rev Owusu said he was surprised that a government appointee could make such remarks. He argued that Gyamfi’s approach was inappropriate and did not reflect the standards President Mahama set for his appointees at the beginning of his administration. Speaking during a panel discussion on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo on August 21, 2026, Rev. Owusu said, “I don’t understand the noise. “Is this President Mahama’s government? If I look at President Mahama’s second term and how things are going, things have changed. How he talks to Ghanaians and his work have changed compared to how he started. “The first time he made his ministers swear, when my brother Omane Boamah was part, he said he would not condone any arrogance in his government because it is Ghanaians who have given them the power, and if anybody does that, he would sack the person from his government. “Our brother Sammy Gyamfi’s explanation on the GoldBod issue was not the best approach. He should understand that after voting for the party, it becomes a government, and he is serving the government, not the party,” he said. His comments come amid heightened exchanges between Sammy Gyamfi and Alexander Afenyo-Markin over alleged financial losses at GoldBod. Gyamfi has maintained that reports from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Bank of Ghana did not blame GoldBod for the alleged losses.
