The Asante Kotoko National Circles Supporters Chairman, Solomon Ofosu-Ware, has disclosed that disciplinary issues contributed to the club’s decision to appoint a foreign coach instead of a local one. He explained that local coaches often struggle to assert authority and take decisive actions to maintain discipline among the squad, which has contributed to the team’s challenges. Speaking in an interview with Kolog Bonaventure of Nationalist TV, Ofosu-Ware revealed that over-familiarity breeds disrespect, making it difficult for local coaches to succeed in management. Some of the players are indisciplined, and that is one of the reasons we went in for a foreign coach. Familiarity has been damaging to local coaches in managing players at the club. Especially when everyone speaks the same language, it does not inspire authority. As a local coach, when you stand firm in decision-making, they tag you with all sorts of names,” he said. The Supporters Chairman, who is also a businessman, noted that he expects Eric Tinkler to instill discipline in the squad by leveraging his vast experience to bring glory to the Porcupine Warriors. “But let’s see what Tinkler and Menzo bring on board. We did a lot of checks on Eric Tinkler, and he is a disciplinarian, so let’s hope for the best,” he added. Kotoko turned to the South African gaffer following the dismissal of local coach Abdul Karim Zito, who failed to deliver laurels as expected by the club’s board and fans, leaving them disappointed.
