2020, 2024 Election Violence: 13 suspects at large - Interior Minister

Minister of the Interior, Mohammed‑Mubarak Muntaka, has disclosed that thirteen suspects linked to election‑related violence during the 2020 and 2024 general elections remain at large, with police intensifying efforts to apprehend them. Addressing the Government Accountability Series on Monday, August 24, 2026, the minister said, “13 suspects are still at large, 26 suspects have so far been arraigned, with one discharged and 25 currently standing trial”. He appealed to the public to assist the police with information on the whereabouts of the remaining suspects. At the time, four suspects were granted police enquiry bail, five were remanded, and arrest warrants were issued for others. Muntaka explained that the latest figures show progress in prosecutions but did not clarify whether the 13 suspects now being pursued are part of the earlier list or additional names. He further stressed that the government remains committed to acting on the findings of the investigations, ensuring accountability for those found culpable and compensation for victims and their families.
