'Don't be deceived!' - Medikal reveals truth about staging concerts outside Ghana

Ghanaian rapper Medikal has shared his thoughts on the realities of organising concerts outside Ghana, following controversies that trailed dancehall artiste Stonebwoy’s recently held BhimFest concert at London’s OVO Wembley on August 15, 2026. While Stonebwoy’s concert drew a packed crowd in the 12,500-capacity auditorium, Medikal noted in a TikTok video that many Ghanaian artistes face huge financial struggles when hosting international concerts. According to him, most artistes spend huge sums of money on such events but often run at a loss. In a recent development, Medikal, in a video shared on TikTok, has spoken about the struggles most Ghanaian artistes go through to ensure these concerts become a success. According to Medikal, almost all artistes who spend huge sums of money to organise events outside the country end up running at a loss. “Don’t stress yourself too much. In Ghana, people don’t comprehend a lot of things because so many artistes are doing a lot of big things. Most of the artistes don’t even have to do what they are doing. So, if individual artistes like myself, Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy host such shows, it’s not easy. So, you have to appreciate it when we do such shows. It’s not even easy to break through in the part of the world where we find ourselves,” he said. Medikal additionally disclosed that he incurred a loss after his concert at O2 Indigo two years ago. “Two years ago, I did O2 Indigo. I don’t even remember the capacity, but a lot of people from London came and they couldn’t even enter. The idea people were spreading was that I had staged a show in the UK and made money. I ran into a loss. These shows are just bragging rights,” he added.
