How Atta Akyea reacted to High Court's decision to continue Adu-Boahene trial

Samuel Atta Akyea, counsel for the former National Signals Bureau (NSB) Director-General, Kwabena Adu-Boahene, has described as “very unfortunate” the trial judge's decision to continue hearing the case despite a fresh injunction application before the Supreme Court. According to Atta Akyea, he expected the judge to allow a three-member panel of the Supreme Court to determine the fresh application before proceeding with the trial. The lawyer also expressed concern that Adu-Boahene was being asked to cross-examine witnesses, even though his client was not trained to do so. “The pain of what is this case is that he wants my client to cross-examine the witnesses. My client is not trained to do that, and I don't want to be seen to be defying his orders, so that is what has happened, but I believe that it's unfortunate,” he raised his concerns. Atta Akyea said he believed the judge should have waited for the Supreme Court to deal with the fresh injunction application. “I thought the judge would respect the fact that the three judges should determine the injunction, which was restraining him from continuing with the case. He didn't do that,” he stated. He explained that he brought the fresh application to the attention of the trial judge because the Ofoase Ayirebi MP, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, had filed it before a three-member panel of the Supreme Court after an earlier application was dismissed.
