Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Adentan, Akosua Manu, has described the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, as a “known liar” and accused him of using personal attacks to deflect attention from questions about the Board’s reported losses. Speaking on a panel discussion on Metro TV on August 24, 2026, Akosua Manu said the focus of the debate should be on the reported $1.7 billion loss associated with the domestic gold purchase programme rather than the personal exchanges between Gyamfi and Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin. She argued that the public deserves answers about the circumstances that led to the reported loss and the individuals responsible for decisions concerning the programme. According to her, attempts to shift the discussion to accusations and personal disagreements amount to a distraction from the substantive issues. She said there had been a pattern of personal attacks against individuals who questioned the operations of GoldBod or the Bank of Ghana. She referred to previous allegations attributed to Gyamfi, including claims concerning the ownership of Hubtel, and said she considered some of those claims to be false. According to her, Gyamfi’s history of making allegations and subsequently resorting to the courts should not prevent Ghanaians from demanding answers about the reported loss. “Sammy Gyamfi is a known liar; if a liar tells you to go to court, he knows the judge, he is a known liar,” she said. She added, “It's established a pattern. Anybody who questions GoldBod or BoG, so long as GoldBod is in the conversation, you are going to face personal attacks and insults. But those personal attacks and insults should not distract us.” Manu further criticised Gyamfi’s response to calls for parliamentary scrutiny, arguing that the matter should be brought before Parliament for a proper inquiry rather than being debated primarily on television and radio programmes. She said the reported $1.7 billion loss was significant and could have been used to finance major national projects. “The voter does not care about the personal relationship or whatever has transpired between Sammy Gyamfi and Afenyo-Markin.
