Former Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, has disclosed that the individual responsible for creating a fake audio recording in 2018 that used his voice to make derogatory remarks about Northerners has been arrested.
According to a video sighted on X on August 26, 2026, Osei-Mensah said he has finally secured the arrest of the person who produced the fabricated audio, which subjected him to years of backlash and public criticism.
He narrated that after uttering curses against whoever was behind the fake audio, he later received a WhatsApp message.

He retrieved the sender’s number and placed a call to the person. He said that when he contacted the person, he began to hurl insults at him.
"After my remarks on radio (cursing the person behind it), I received a WhatsApp message from an unknown number. I quickly retrieved the number and contacted the person. He introduced himself as Akomadan Agyei Nkansah and immediately began insulting me, so I cut the call. Later, he kept sending me messages," he narrated.
"Initially, I didn’t know he was the one until he sent me an audio he claimed to have shared with Kofi Jumah, the former Member of Parliament for Asokwa. Even in that audio, he continued insulting me. I had said in my remarks that the culprit should come and apologise, but instead, he kept hurling insults I don’t even want to repeat," he added.
Osei-Menash continued that: "Fortunately, I was able to track some information about him and forwarded it to the Regional Police Command to identify the person behind the allegations. Because I cursed him on radio, that was the reason why he began attacking me, but the police worked hard to apprehend him."

He further disclosed that the culprit, after admitting that he was the one behind the video, had been arrested.
"Yesterday, he was arrested and kept in custody. Today, we have been called to discuss the matter, and the suspect has admitted that he is the one behind the audio and video that circulated,” Osei-Mensah shared.
Background
The original audio, which circulated widely on social media platforms including WhatsApp and Facebook in October 2018, appeared to feature Osei-Mensah making tribal comments.
At the time, he issued a press statement to explain that the voice was not his and that he had never made such remarks. He described the recording as a malicious fabrication by political opponents intended to damage his reputation and sow ethnic division.
National Security launched investigations into the matter in 2018, but no public resolution was announced then.
The former Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe stated that the arrest brings closure to an issue that immensely impacted his reputation.
