‘I’ve done the most features with female artistes’ – Tiwa Savage hits back at critics

Nigerian Afrobeats singer Tiwa Savage has responded to claims that she does not support or collaborate with female artistes, describing such accusations as untrue. According to the award-winning musician, she has collaborated with several female artistes throughout her career and believes she has done more features with female musicians than many of her female counterparts. Speaking during a podcast discussion on August 25, 2026, Tiwa Savage mentioned that she has repeatedly supported women in the music industry despite public perceptions to the contrary. “I’ve heard people say that I don’t feature female artistes, which is also a lie. Check the female artistes in Nigeria; I’ve done the most features with them,” she said. She questioned why her collaborations with female artistes do not receive the same level of attention and promotion from industry gatekeepers. “My thing is, where are these gatekeepers? Why are they not promoting it?” she asked. Tiwa Savage cited some of her collaborations with female musicians as examples of her efforts to support women in the industry. She mentioned working with Ghanaian singer Efya, as well as Nigerian artistes including Simi and Ayra Starr. ‘I’ve frozen some of my eggs’ – Tiwa Savage reveals plans to have more children “When I dropped a song with Simi, Efya, Ayra and the list goes on. How are you then going to encourage me to do more?” she questioned. The singer expressed frustration that despite making an effort to collaborate with other women, she often does not see sufficient support for those projects. “When I do with the females, you guys don’t support it, but nobody talks about it,” she stated. She shared that the lack of visibility for her female-led collaborations contributes to what she considers an unfair narrative about her attitude towards other female artistes. “They would just say I don’t want to support other females,” she noted. Tiwa Savage also pointed to her concerts as evidence of her willingness to create opportunities for other female artistes. She revealed that she invited Yemi Alade to perform at one of her shows and also brought Ayra Starr on stage because of her admiration for the young singer. “When I did my concert, I pulled out Yemi Alade to come perform at my show. That’s the same thing I did with Ayra Starr because I love her, so I do try,” she added. View this post on Instagram
