Watch Mustapha Hamid’s surprise Gospel performance at public lecture

Former Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Dr Mustapha Abdul‑Hamid, surprised participants at the Danquah Institute’s 2026 Liberty Lecture when he broke into a gospel classic during his presentation on the widely debated Islamic agenda.

Midway through his address, Hamid paused to sing “Aseda Nka Onyame”, a popular Gospel song in the Ghana.

The video shared on TikTok on August 25, 2026, captures Hamid singing for close to two minutes, with former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo‑Addo and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia visibly stunned by the performance.

The former president appeared particularly surprised, watching keenly as Hamid continued his rendition.

The unexpected performance drew loud applause from participants and sparked conversations, particularly on TikTok.

Hamid, who is also contesting as the NPP’s First National Vice Chairman, used the moment to underscore his longstanding advocacy for religious tolerance.

He urged Ghanaians to judge Dr Bawumia by his competence rather than his faith, stressing that unity between Christians and Muslims remains vital for Ghana’s progress.
