Otumfuo explains why Asante political system is often misunderstood

The Asante political system is sometimes misunderstood by those who encounter only its visible manifestations - the Golden Stool, the Royal Umbrellas, the drums, the gold ornaments, the linguists, the swords, procession and great ceremonies of state.

According to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, most people who come close to the Asante political system often misunderstand how it works.

He made this known while delivering a royal lecture at Howard University in Washington DC, United States of America, on Tuesday August 25,2026.

Otumfuo noted that these symbols are very important because they are the visible language through which memory and authority are communicated.

"Beneath the splendor lies a sophisticated philosophy of political responsibility," he stated.

He explained that the deep philosophy behind the symbols reflects accountability, trusteeship and service to the people, which should guide leadership in all systems of governance.
