Ambassador Mona Quartey champions sustainable cocoa supply chain in Italy

Ghana’s Ambassador to Italy, Mona Quartey, has highlighted Ghana’s efforts to promote a sustainable and investor-friendly cocoa sector during a seminar in Rimini, Italy.

Ambassador Quartey led a diplomatic delegation, including the Head of Chancery at the Ghanaian Embassy in Rome, Kwesi Amuzu-Kpene, to the seminar, titled “Cacao Connect: The Italian Way to the Sustainable Cocoa Supply Chain in Africa,” held as part of the Meeting di Rimini.

The Ambassador engaged with key global stakeholders, Italian institutions, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) and Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP), as well as major cocoa and chocolate companies such as Ferrero and ICAM.

Discussions focused on Ghana’s cocoa quality standards, opportunities for public-private partnerships, and the need to promote climate-resilient and fair-trade practices across the cocoa supply chain.

Ambassador Quartey also provided updates on the Ghana Cocoa Board Bill 2026, which is expected to receive Presidential assent and become law.

She said the proposed legislation would strengthen the cocoa sector, improve the fortunes of local cocoa farmers and create opportunities for investors interested in local cocoa processing and value addition.

The Embassy mentioned that Ghana’s participation in the seminar formed part of its broader economic diplomacy efforts to position the country as a strategic partner for sustainable development and agro-processing in Europe.
