Don Jazzy dismisses industry rivalry claims

Nigerian music executive and producer Don Jazzy has dismissed widespread claims of rivalry in the music industry, revealing that he played a role in naming Davido’s acclaimed 2023 album, 'Timeless'.

Speaking in an interview, the Mavin Records boss said many fans on social media wrongly assume that artistes and industry figures are constantly at odds with one another.

According to him, online fan wars have created a false narrative that artistes from different camps cannot have genuine friendships or professional relationships.

“Everybody on the internet thinks everyone is fighting. They always think artists are fighting; they always think there is rivalry and competition. I gave Davido’s Timeless album its name,” he revealed.

He also pointed to the intense rivalry between fan bases, explaining that even mentioning the names of Davido or Wizkid often sparks unnecessary backlash online.

“Social media is so dramatic to the extent that if I mention Wizkid, 30BG will come at me. If I mention Davido, Wizkid FC will come at me,” he said

His comments come amid ongoing debates about fan culture in the Nigerian music industry, where supporters of top artistes frequently clash on social media over perceived competition and loyalty.
