UPNMG supports NMTC with GH¢5,000 following devastating fire disaster

The Union of Professional Nurses and Midwives, Ghana (UPNMG), through its Youth Wing, has extended a gesture of solidarity and support to the management and students of the Gushegu Nursing and Midwifery Training College (NMTC) following the devastating fire incident that destroyed the institution’s ICT laboratory and adjoining classrooms on August 17, 2026. The visit was aimed at commiserating with the college community and reaffirming the Union’s long‑standing commitment to supporting institutions that contribute to the training and development of nurses and midwives in Ghana. As part of the visit, the UPNMG Youth Wing presented a donation of GH¢5,000 to support efforts towards the reconstruction of the college’s library. Speaking during the visit, the delegation expressed the Union’s deep concern over the impact of the incident on teaching, learning, research and the general academic activities of the institution. The Union noted that the library remains an essential component of any educational institution and expressed hope that the support would contribute, however modestly, to the college’s recovery and rebuilding efforts. The management of Gushegu NMTC expressed profound gratitude to UPNMG for its timely intervention and continued interest in the welfare of nurses and midwives. Management further called for strengthened collaboration between the College and the Union to promote the training of competent and quality nurses and midwives for Ghana and beyond.
