Some people may find it difficult to leave troubled relationships when they share a strong sexual connection with their partners, Dr Paul Lartey, Medical Administrator at The Chosen Hospital and Fertility Centre, has said.
According to him, sexual intimacy can create a strong bond between partners, sometimes making it difficult for people to walk away even when they recognise that a relationship is unhealthy.

Speaking on Starr FM on Thursday, September 10, 2026, he said a relationship could become problematic when partners do not share the same values, goals or beliefs and also lack good communication.
He noted that despite these challenges, some couples remain together because of the strong connection created through sex.
“We have many people that know they are with the wrong person but because they have knotted in the sexual place and that is a strong connection, they are unable to leave,” he said.
Dr Lartey said some people are aware of the red flags in their relationships and know they need to leave, but their sexual connection with their partners can make the decision more difficult.
“They know they have to leave. They know this is bad music. All red flags but still sex is that glue,” he added.
He explained that sex creates a high level of physical intimacy between two people and can strengthen the bond between partners, particularly in healthy relationships.
“It makes you so intimate with the person and it's sort of the highest form of a physical connection that you can have with somebody and so yes, it strengthens a bond for a good relationship, and it sticks you to somebody,” he said.
Dr Lartey therefore advised people to be mindful of who they become sexually intimate with.
“So, be careful who you have sex with,” he cautioned.
