Obuasi fire victims receive GH¢1.5m support from Bawa-Rock

About 300 traders affected by the fire outbreak at the Obuasi Town Hall have received a GH¢1.5 million support package from Bawa-Rock Limited to help them recover and restart their businesses. The fire, which occurred on Saturday, September 5, 2026, destroyed several businesses and left traders with significant losses. The intervention by the Obuasi-based gold trading and mining company, owned by Alhaji Rasheed Bawa Namoro, includes financial assistance and sewing machines for affected traders, master trainers and apprentices. Speaking on behalf of Bawa-Rock Limited, the company’s Business Development and Sustainability Manager, Eric Addae Boateng, said the support formed part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives. He said the company remained committed to supporting and empowering local communities, adding that the intervention was intended to ease the financial burden on the affected traders. “We hope this intervention will help ease the difficulties faced by the affected traders and provide them with the needed support to get back on their feet,” he said. The Municipal Chief Executive for Obuasi, Faustilove Appiah Kanin, expressed appreciation to Bawa-Rock Limited for responding to her appeal for support. She noted that government alone could not meet the needs of all persons affected by the fire and appealed to other individuals, organisations and institutions to support the traders in their recovery efforts. The MCE also urged the beneficiaries to use the assistance responsibly to rebuild their businesses and improve their livelihoods.
