Relationship counselor Counselor Perfect has urged young women to prioritise financial independence and avoid measuring success solely by material possessions or lifestyle.
Speaking in an interview on Joy Prime on Saturday, September 12, 2026, Counselor Perfect said societal expectations often create the impression that a woman must own a company or live a particular lifestyle before she can be considered successful.
“You need to be financially strong enough to support yourself. Society is making it look as if unless I have my own company or I’m living a certain lifestyle, I cannot be successful. Success is not just a one-day thing; it’s a process. So, let’s start from the process, and society should also push young ladies who are not into all those things but are being successful,” she said.
She also called on society to be more willing to criticise individuals who promote behaviours she considers harmful, rather than targeting people with less influence or support.
“Let us shun those who are doing that. Call them out, like you were saying here, calling somebody who openly said that, ‘What about those who were doing that?’ Because we’re afraid of them, their personality and the rest; we don’t. The ones that don’t have much support, they are new in the system; you want to call and bully them,” she stated.

Counselor Perfect urged people to consider the circumstances and perspective behind statements made by individuals before rushing to condemn them.
“If someone says something, look at where the person is coming from. We’re in a society where some people endorse polygamy. It’s a traditional thing. How many of the country’s population are Christians? Even some Christian men are busily doing that,” she noted.
She continued, “We have Muslims who go for four. So, if the person is saying that, from what angle is the person saying that? As a society, what can we do to turn it around?”
She, however, cautioned women against relying on married men as a means of achieving financial success or improving their circumstances.
“But no married man can be your blessing. It never ends well,” she added.
