We will take President Mahama's officiating concerns seriously - GFA

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) says it will take President John Dramani Mahama's concerns about the standard of officiating in the domestic game seriously. Mahama recently criticised refereeing in Ghana football during a meeting with representatives of Medeama SC, Nations FC and Ampem Darkoa at Jubilee House. However, GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum insisted the association does not regard the President's remarks as an attack. Speaking to Luv FM, Asante Twum said the comments should serve as motivation for the GFA to review its efforts and continue improving the game. "It does not mean that we will be at warpath with His Excellency. It is good that he is following the sport. It is good that he has spotted certain anomalies that he feels must be checked," he said. Asante Twum said the GFA had a duty to pay attention to concerns raised by the country's leader and work towards addressing them. "Once the first gentleman of the land makes such assertions or claims, we just have to sit up and ensure that the things that we are doing, we do them better," he added. He said the association remained committed to tackling areas where progress had slowed and strengthening football administration across the country. "Those that may have fallen apart, we put things back on track and ensure that we get a better football ecosystem," Asante Twum said. The GFA has in recent years introduced measures aimed at improving refereeing standards and protecting the integrity of competitions, with officiating continuing to be a key issue in Ghanaian football.Source: ghanasoccernet.com
