The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has secured funding for the construction of a new airport in Wa, paving the way for work on the long-awaited project to begin soon.
President John Dramani Mahama disclosed this during an inspection of the proposed project site in the Upper West Region.
According to the President, the financing and procurement processes for the project have been completed, with contractors selected to undertake the construction.
“The Ghana Airports Company has secured the funds needed to implement the project,” President Mahama said.

The new airport is expected to replace the existing Wa facility, which was originally developed as an airstrip and is no longer suitable for the region’s growing aviation needs.
President Mahama said the project forms part of efforts to improve domestic air travel and expand air connectivity across the country.
The development is expected to improve access to the Upper West Region while supporting business, tourism and other economic activities that depend on reliable air transport.
