‘I never thought I’d meet the CEO of TikTok’ - Chef Abbys

Ghanaian food content creator, Chef Abbys, has revealed that one of the most surreal moments in her career was meeting the CEO of TikTok, describing the experience as something she never imagined would happen. Speaking in an interview with Berla Mundi, Chef Abbys said she was selected by TikTok after her traditional Ghanaian food content gained significant traction on the platform, leading to an invitation to join the platform’s global Discover List. According to her, she was the only Ghanaian selected for the initiative before being chosen as the sole African creator among 20 global creators who attended the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. “I will say, meeting the TikTok CEO. I never thought I’d meet the CEO of TikTok. The app that we’re all posting on… I never thought. Never,” she said. ‘Stonebwoy, Sarkodie and Shatta Wale are all enablers’ - Arnold on toxic fan culture Chef Abbys explained that during the Cannes Lions programme, she and the other creators had the opportunity to meet the TikTok CEO, share their ideas and interact with him, an experience that left her overwhelmed. “I was really shaking. I was in disbelief. I couldn’t believe it. I literally cried after because I was like, ‘There is no way that I’ve reached there.’ Me that I used to cook… there’s absolutely no way,” she recounted. The emotional reflection brought Chef Abbys to tears during the interview as she admitted she had not taken time to process how far she had come in her career. She added that the first people she called after the meeting were her parents, who expressed pride in her achievements, especially because she chose to carve her own path despite growing up with many opportunities. “They were so happy.
