Kweku Smoke, has explained why he included a line from the tragic June 3 disaster, which claimed several lives, in his song Survivor.
Currently topping charts and dominating airplay with his newly released album 'No Days Off', the Ghanaian rapper revealed during an interview with Kwadwo Sheldon that the verse was inspired by a true story involving his childhood friend.
According to Kweku Smoke, his friend had just secured employment with the Ghana Police Service after years of struggle. On his way back from Konongo, where he had shared the news with his family, he was caught in the heavy rains at Circle on June 3.

Seeking shelter at a filling station, he was initially turned away by attendants until he showed his police ID card. Tragically, that same location became the epicenter of the fire disaster, leaving him with serious injuries.
“I was looking for a story that would actually match the chorus. So I remembered my friend who is a victim of the Circle incident, called Paa Kojo. When I called him for the story, I didn't let him know that I wanted to use it for a song, or else he could have added what didn't happen. He is my childhood friend.
“He had to undergo surgery. He even told me that when he was recruited, he travelled to Konongo to inform his father, and after the celebration, he took a trotro back to Accra. When they got to the Circle, it started raining, so he got down from the car to look for somewhere safe... And that was where the incident happened,” Kweku Smoke narrated.

While explaining how he put the verse together, Kweku Smoke played an audio recording of his friend, identified as Paa Kojo, narrating what he witnessed during the Circle disaster.
“I was very close during the fire. It is only God who saved me. The blast threw me into the water. I was under the water, drinking it,” Paa Kojo shared.
