Ofankor-Pokuase Crash: 12-year-old survivor seeks support to walk again

Twelve-year-old Angelina Stickings, who lost both legs and her father in the deadly Ofankor-Pokuase road crash, is appealing for support to help her recover and return to school. Angelina is currently receiving treatment at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital after surviving the August 13, 2026, accident which claimed 12 lives and injured several others. The accident, which involved multiple vehicles, was reportedly triggered after a tricycle rider was knocked down, resulting in a chain collision that left Angelina with life-changing injuries. According to a report by citinewsroom.com on September 14, 2026, Angelina lost both legs in the crash. Her family has also kept news of her father's death from her as she continues to recover. The tragedy came just six months after Angelina lost her mother, leaving her family facing another devastating loss. Before the accident, Angelina was focused on her education and had dreams for the future. She is now hoping to recover, receive prosthetic limbs and return to school. In an emotional appeal from her hospital bed, Angelina called for support to help her and her family. You guys need to help us,” she said. Her brother, John Stickings, said the family had been overwhelmed by the cost of her treatment and was now raising funds to provide her with prosthetic limbs. “We are preparing to do the leg, because sometimes she complains that she wants to go to school again. We need the government to support us. Any support to make my sister walk again,” he appealed. Meanwhile, the National Road Safety Authority’s Senior Planning Manager at the Greater Accra Office, Felix Owusu, said police investigations into the crash were ongoing. He said the driver of the tipper truck believed to have caused the crash initially fled the scene but had since been arrested and was assisting with investigations. Owusu also reminded motorists that although the law permits higher speed limits on highways and motorways, passenger-carrying vehicles are subject to a maximum speed of 80 kilometres per hour. He appealed to non-governmental organisations, civil society groups and philanthropists to support Angelina and other survivors with financial and psychological assistance to help them cope with the trauma and reintegrate into society.
