Living in East Legon, Cantonments, Trassaco: See how much you need each month

Imagine finding your dream home, then learning that one month’s rent costs more than some people earn in a year. In parts of Accra, that is the price of living close to embassies, business centres, top schools and luxury estates. A drive from Nima to Cantonments takes about 15 minutes. In that time, the rent can jump from GH¢350 for a room to an average advertised price of GH¢71,000 for a house. The streets belong to the same city, but the homes seem to belong to different worlds. GhanaWeb Business takes a look at ten of Accra’s most expensive areas, why people want to live there, and how much they may have to pay before moving in. Cantonments is known for its embassies and homes rented by diplomats and company executives. Its quiet streets and large properties come at a high price. Houses advertised on meQasa average about GH¢71,000 a month, while apartments average roughly GH¢34,000. One house is advertised at almost GH¢954,000 a month. A price that high can make the area’s average rent look higher than most people would pay. Airport Residential Area draws tenants who want to live close to Accra International Airport, Airport City and major company offices. Its 783 listed apartments average GH¢40,136 a month, but they cover very different types of homes, from modest units to high-end serviced apartments. The area is also among Accra’s most expensive places to buy property. Ridge includes North Ridge and West Ridge. People value its large, older homes and its closeness to government offices and the city centre. With little land left for new buildings, it remains an expensive place to live. Apartments advertised in Ridge average GH¢35,831 a month, with listings ranging from GH¢3,000 to GH¢230,400 a month. Labone offers a balance that is hard to find in the city, a residential setting with cafes, restaurants and nearby commercial areas. Osu and Cantonments are only a short distance away. Its 174 listed apartments average GH¢33,412 a month, although individual asking prices differ. East Legon is larger and more varied than many of the areas on this list. Tenants can choose between smaller apartments, family homes and houses in gated estates, with schools, hospitals and restaurants nearby. Listed houses average GH¢47,560 a month and apartments GH¢20,406. Ownkey’s early 2026 guide puts one-bedroom apartments at about GH¢5,000 to GH¢14,000 a month, showing that the cost depends heavily on the type of home. Trasacco Valley is known for large homes, controlled access and private facilities. According to meQasa, 83 houses are listed for rent in the wider Trasacco area. Their average rent is GH¢43,033 a month, with prices ranging from GH¢5,000 to GH¢98,655. Dzorwulu has grown beyond its reputation as a quiet residential area. Company offices now sit alongside homes, adding to demand for accommodation. Apartments advertised there average about GH¢22,225 a month. Adjiringanor, east of East Legon, has attracted buyers and tenants looking for newer houses and gated developments. Its 254 listed houses average GH¢28,285 a month. But the advertised rents run from GH¢4,632 to GH¢140,088, so the average alone gives only a rough idea of what a particular house might cost. Osu is unlike the quieter luxury neighbourhoods. Its streets are busy with shops, restaurants and visitors, and its central position supports demand for short stays. Listed apartments average about GH¢10,363 a month, lower than in several other areas here. Airport City is mostly known for offices and hotels, but it also has serviced apartments. People who work nearby or travel often may choose to stay there because it is close to the airport. Larger homes in the wider airport area are estimated to rent for $2,500 to $4,000 a month. These prices show what landlords are asking, not what tenants end up paying. Even on the same street, rents can differ greatly.
