Ghanaian rapper Lyrical Joe has stated that while some artistes deliberately stage beefs to remain relevant, he would never resort to such tactics, as he reflected on the events that sparked his highly publicised feud with fellow rapper Amerado.
Speaking on The Group Chat podcast with Nana Aba Anamoah and Reggie Rockstone, Lyrical Joe dismissed suggestions that his rap battles could have been orchestrated for attention, insisting that although staged beefs happen in the industry, they are not part of his strategy.
“Oh no, well people do it, but I would never stage a beef,” he said after Nana Aba remarked that she sometimes feels artistes’ beefs are staged.

The rapper revealed that he has had several lyrical clashes over the years, both in Ghana and internationally, but admitted that his back-and-forth with Amerado was the one that gained widespread public attention.
According to Lyrical Joe, the feud began after the 3Music Awards, where Amerado beat him to the Rapper of the Year award. He explained that comments made by 3Music boss Baba Sadiq in a post-awards interview did not sit well with him, prompting him to release a song directed at the organisers.
“I made a song directing it to 3Music, and that is where the fight started,” he recalled, adding that despite the public exchanges, he and Amerado remained on good terms behind the scenes.
Lyrical Joe further explained that tensions intensified after he won the same category at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, with criticism from some industry figures and perceived shots from Amerado’s camp forcing him to defend his achievement.
“It was more like I had to speak up, and the speaking up for myself looked like I was being paired against him, so the back and forth started… and it escalated,” he said.
