Titus Glover warns Laboma demolitions could hurt private investment
Former Greater Accra Regional Minister Titus Glover has warned that the demolition of businesses and resorts within the Laboma enclave could undermine private investment and lead to significant job losses.
The structures were demolished on Sunday, September 13, as part of efforts by government and relevant authorities to reclaim waterways and reduce flooding in parts of the Greater Accra Region.

Glover said while the government has a responsibility to protect waterways and address flooding, the demolition of businesses where people have invested substantial capital could have wider economic consequences.
Speaking in an interview on Channel One TV on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, Glover said the government should consider the financial commitments made by businesses operating in the area before taking such drastic action.
He argued that private businesses provide an important source of employment at a time when government alone cannot create enough jobs for the growing number of young people and graduates entering the labour market.
“Government cannot provide jobs. There are a lot of people who are asking for jobs. They are knocking on the doors of politicians every day,” he said.
Glover said the destruction of businesses could also wipe out years of investment by entrepreneurs and companies, especially where alternative technical measures could be considered to address flooding.
“If people have invested in these things, and so if the only thing we can do is to demolish, we have a problem,” he stated.
He, however, stressed that he would support the government’s decision to remove structures that have deliberately been built on waterways.
He called for a more balanced approach that protects the environment and reduces flooding while also taking into account private investment, businesses and the jobs they provide.
