Reliable energy, digital innovation key to industrial growth – AGI President

President of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), Kofi Nsiah-Poku, has identified energy reliability and digital innovation as key drivers of industrial growth and competitiveness in Ghana. He said reliable energy supply and the adoption of digital technologies were essential to improving the productivity of local businesses and positioning Ghanaian industries for sustainable growth. Nsiah-Poku made the remarks at the opening of the 2026 AGI Industrial Summit and Exhibition at the Underbridge Annex in Accra. The three-day event is being held under the theme: “Driving Sustainable Export-Led Growth through Energy Reliability and Digital Innovation.” He said the theme reflects some of the key issues that continue to influence the competitiveness and long-term growth of Ghanaian industries. Nsiah-Poku commended government efforts to expand electricity generation capacity and improve grid infrastructure across the country. He, however, stressed the need for continued engagement among industry players, government and regulators, particularly on energy tariffs, to ensure that businesses can operate competitively. The AGI President said addressing energy-related challenges, alongside greater adoption of digital technologies, would help create a stronger environment for businesses to expand and compete in both local and international markets. The summit brings together industry leaders, policymakers, regulators, development partners and other stakeholders for discussions on industrial development. The programme includes conferences, exhibitions and panel discussions focused on energy reliability, digital innovation, industrial competitiveness and export-led growth. The opening ceremony featured addresses from public- and private-sector leaders, including Volta River Authority (VRA) CEO Edward Ekow Obeng-Kenzo; UBA Ghana CEO Bernard Appiah Gyebi; EU Ambassador Rune Skinnebach; Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) Commissioner-General Anthony Kwesi Sarpong; Bank of Ghana Economist Philip Abradu-Otoo; Deputy Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry Sampson Ahi; and Chief Partnership Officer of the 24-Hour Economy Secretariat, Ishmael Nii Dodoo, who served as Special Guest.Source: Desmond Tinana, Contributor
