Volta chiefs sign three major MoUs in China to drive investment

The Volta Region’s investment and development drive has received a major boost following the signing of three Memoranda of Understanding between a delegation of Volta Chiefs and Chinese companies in Foshan, Guangdong Province. The agreements, signed during the delegation’s ongoing business and investment mission to China, cover three key areas: technology, construction and investment with the parties expressing interest in deepening cooperation and promoting sustainable development in the Volta Region and Ghana as a whole. The three agreements are with: Guangdong Welleap Information Technology Company — Technology Foshan Jinting Construction Engineering Co., Ltd. — Construction SINOHUI Investment Ghana Limited — Investment The signing and cooperation ceremony was held in Foshan, one of China’s major manufacturing and industrial centres. The delegation is expected to continue its programme of factory visits, business meetings and investment engagements in other parts of Guangdong, under the guidance of Ghana’s Ambassador to China, H.E. Kojo Bonsu, with support from the Ghana Consulate in Guangzhou, led by Consul-General Mr. Sidney Kwesi Ellis. The signing ceremony was led by the President of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, Togbe Tepre Hodo IV, alongside Business Consultant and Coordinator of the China mission, Peter Ahiekpor. According to sources close to the delegation, the Chinese business partners have expressed interest in the vision and seriousness demonstrated by the Volta Chiefs during the engagements. The chiefs, meanwhile, have welcomed the opportunities presented through the factory tours, technology demonstrations and intensive business-to-business discussions held during the first three days of the mission. The delegation says it intends to make full use of the remaining days of its one-week visit to explore opportunities for technology transfer, industrial partnerships and investment that could benefit communities in the Volta Region and contribute to Ghana’s broader development agenda. The signing of the three MOUs within the first 72 hours of the mission also comes as an early outcome of the investment engagements initiated by Ambassador Kojo Bonsu, who had earlier expressed confidence that the chiefs would return home with positive results from the China mission. Further factory inspections, investment discussions and B2B negotiations are expected to take place in Shenzhen and Guangzhou before the delegation returns to Ghana. The mission is expected to provide the Volta Region with additional opportunities to connect traditional leadership with international investors, technology companies and industrial partners.
