‘We have introduced more Colts competitions than ever before’ – Kurt Okraku

Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku says the association has significantly expanded its activities around Colts football as part of efforts to strengthen grassroots development. Okraku made the statement on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram during the launch of the 2026/27 Colts Football League. The GFA president said the association’s work over the past six years has gone beyond simply restoring the competition, insisting that several new initiatives have been introduced to create more opportunities for young footballers. His comments came days after President John Dramani Mahama called for the revival and strengthening of Colts football, with Okraku referencing the President's recent remarks during his speech at the launch. “Last week, our President spent time to speak about Colts football. I’m sure in his dreams, the Almighty God told him the GFA had planned to launch a Colts Football League today. Because today, he will definitely hear about Colts football,” he said. GFA boss Kurt Okraku appeals for free government astroturfs for over 1,000 Colts clubs He stressed that the GFA has invested heavily in Colts football since its revival. “Ghana will be reminded that for six years running, we [GFA] have not only invested in Colts football, but we have also resurrected Colts football. We have introduced a lot of Colts-related competitions than ever before,” Okraku added. The 2026/27 season marks the sixth consecutive campaign since the Colts system was revived. According to the GFA, there are currently 859 active Colts clubs across Ghana, while 600 coaches have been trained over the past three years.
