NPP Germany Youth Wing issues statement on women’s voices matter demonstration

The Students' and Women's Affairs Desk of the NPP Germany Branch Youth Wing has expressed solidarity with Ghanaian women who participated in the #WomenVoicesMatter Demonstration held in Accra on Tuesday, 29 September 2026.
In a press release signed by Miss Vanessea Dela Beddy, the coordinator for Students' and Women's Affairs and her deputy, Miss Emma Debra, the office of students’ and women’s affairs said the demonstration brought together women from diverse backgrounds to raise concerns relating to justice, dignity, equality before the law, freedom of expression and the protection of constitutional rights.
The statement also highlighted concerns surrounding reports and public discussions about arrests, investigations, harassment and intimidation involving women, mothers, professionals and other female voices.
The Students' and Women's Affairs Desk said such developments underscore the importance of creating an environment in which citizens can express their views and participate in public affairs without fear of unlawful reprisal.
They emphasised that freedom of expression is a fundamental right in a democratic society and that citizens should be able to express their opinions, engage in public discussions and contribute to national conversations on matters of public concern, subject to the law and the rights of others.
According to Miss Beddy and Miss Debra, "the participation of women in civic and public life remains important to the functioning of a democratic society. They therefore called on the relevant authorities to uphold the rule of law, guarantee due process and protect the rights and freedoms of all citizens without fear, favour or discrimination."
The Women and Student Affairs Desk further noted that the demonstration served as an expression of concerns about the treatment of women and the protection of their rights and freedoms.
Oduko Kojo Oppong, the Germany Youth Organizer was in Ghana to participate in the demonstration while Miss Beddy and Miss Debra, released the statement from Germany to support the demonstration.
The statement concludes with a message reflecting the central theme of the demonstration, “Women’s voices matter. Women’s rights matter. Freedom of expression matters.”
