'I was very surprised' – Habib Iddrisu reacts to Bagbin's ruling

Tolon MP and Deputy Minority Chief Whip Habib Iddrisu has said he was surprised by Speaker Alban Bagbin’s decision not to admit the Minority’s motion seeking a parliamentary inquiry into major narcotics consignments linked to Ghana.
Iddrisu, who filed the motion, said he had been convinced that the Speaker would allow it to proceed, especially given the circumstances surrounding Parliament’s emergency recall.
“I was very, very surprised that the motion was rejected or was not admitted by the Speaker because I was very convinced that the Speaker was going to admit the motion, but he didn’t,” he said on Joy News.
He said he had expected a different outcome despite arguments by some people that the motion could not be admitted.
“Many thought otherwise that there’s no way we can admit this motion,” he said, adding that he remained confident that the Speaker would accept it.
Bagbin, however, ruled against the motion during Parliament’s emergency sitting on Tuesday, September 29, citing concerns that the proposed inquiry could overlap with ongoing court proceedings and prejudice the judicial process.
