'I'm the most experienced candidate' – Nana B makes strong case for NPP Vice Chairmanship

Aspiring NPP National Vice Chairman, Henry Nana Boakye, has declared that his extensive experience and years of service to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) make him the most qualified among the contenders seeking to become the party’s next National Vice Chairman. Speaking on the Kokrokoo morning show hosted by veteran broadcaster Kwame Sefa Kayi, Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, said his journey within the NPP began at a very young age and has taken him through virtually every major level of party organisation. According to him, he became actively involved in the party at age 19 while he was a student at the then Tarkwa School of Mines, now the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT). He recounted that during his student days, he served as a communicator for the NPP on radio, including Space FM and Dynamite FM, while simultaneously helping to mobilise young people for the party. Nana Boakye said his commitment to party organisation led him and his colleagues to establish the Tertiary Students Confederacy Network (TESCON), where he became the pioneering president. After completing his studies at UMaT, he pursued a law degree at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), where he said he again played a leading role in mobilising students for the NPP and was elected president of the student organisation. He argued that his political career has subsequently exposed him to virtually every aspect of party administration and organisation. Nana Boakye pointed to his service as National Youth Organiser and National Organiser, as well as his membership of several party committees, as evidence of the depth of experience he would bring to the office of National Vice Chairman. “I have practically served in almost every position that gives me an understanding of how the party works,” he said. He explained that his ambition for the position is informed by a desire to use his experience across the party's various structures to strengthen the work of the national leadership. According to him, having served in different national positions gives him an understanding of the responsibilities and challenges confronting the various offices, which would enable him to provide effective support and counsel as Vice Chairman. 2024 defeat not a dent on my record Nana Boakye also addressed concerns surrounding his tenure as National Organiser during the NPP's defeat in the 2024 general elections. Responding to a question from Kwame Sefa Kayi about whether the defeat could affect his bid for the vice chairmanship, he argued that one electoral setback should not erase years of service and achievements within the party. He maintained that political careers, like life itself, are characterised by both successes and setbacks and that the 2024 defeat should therefore be assessed within the broader context of his contribution to the NPP. To buttress his point, Nana Boakye cited the experience of President John Dramani Mahama, who suffered a significant electoral defeat before returning to win the 2024 presidential election. He argued that electoral setbacks should not necessarily define the entire political record of an individual. The NPP's National Delegates Conference, at which delegates will elect new national officers, is scheduled to take place in Kumasi over the weekend, with the National Vice Chairman position among the positions being contested.
