'Is our standard Kevin Taylor?' - Eugene Boakye Antwi on politics of insults

Aspirant for the General Secretary position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Eugene Boakye Antwi, has said he will not tolerate insults among party members if elected. He said the party must discourage members from attacking their colleagues publicly, arguing that such conduct could affect the NPP’s chances of winning elections. 'Freedom of expression does not require insults' – Bagbin cautions Ghanaians Speaking on UTV on September 30, 2026, the former Member of Parliament for Subin said he had previously faced criticism after raising concerns about insults within the party. “At a point, I believed that some people were deliberately fuelling insults among party members. If I’m made the General Secretary, I won’t allow such things to happen. I won’t tolerate party members insulting fellow party members; you can’t even try to disrespect our NDC opponents. “When I first raised this issue, some people came to attack me, but I don’t care. How do you pick a camera to insult your elders just because of politics? Some of the people engaging in insults don’t have jobs or anything in their name except politics. And such people think they can insult others who have made names for themselves, and we, as a party, just sit aloof in the name of democracy,” he said. Boakye Antwi questioned whether such conduct could help the NPP win back the support of Ghanaians. “Do we think Ghanaians will vote for us with this attitude? Our party is weak. When you have a strong leader like me, such acts will not be tolerated. Is our standard Kevin Taylor, a non-politician, for us to entertain him when he makes certain claims?” he questioned. He said his focus would be on enforcing the party’s constitution and promoting unity if he wins the General Secretary position. “I’m not here to make judgments, but politics is for the fine mind, and we are here to develop the country. I’m going to be the chief enforcer of the party’s constitution if elected as General Secretary. I’m looking for victory for my party and not disunity, and if we don’t set an example, it will affect us,” he added. His comments come amid several arrests and prosecutions involving some NPP members over alleged insults against the government, with some receiving prison sentences.
