Samuel Atta Akyea, Lawyer for Manhyia South MP, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has denied reports that his client has been granted bail in the sum of GH¢50 million.
Speaking on Adom FM on Friday, October 2, 2026, Atta Akyea said Baffour Awuah remains in the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
“It is not true that he has been granted bail,” he said.

He added that he had received information that EOCO plans to keep his client in custody and later present him before the court that issued the arrest warrant for the court to determine his bail.
“What I’m even hearing is that they want to further detain him and take him to the court that granted the arrest warrant for it to grant him bail instead,” he disclosed.
Atta Akyea expressed frustration over the situation, arguing that his client is not wanted by the court and therefore does not need to be taken before a court to be granted bail.
He said it was EOCO that had invited Baffour Awuah to assist with an ongoing investigation and, therefore, the agency should be responsible for granting him bail.
The lawyer also criticised the way he believes his client has been treated, stressing that Baffour Awuah is a lawmaker who voluntarily reported himself to assist with the investigation and should not have been detained.
“It is not the court that is after my client, but EOCO; that is how they got the warrant. This is not a bench warrant for my client to be taken to court. He is an MP and willingly reported himself to EOCO, so how come they detained him? The arrest warrant directed that he be served through the Speaker of Parliament, but he didn’t wait for that.
“He conceded that he had broken the law, and as a lawyer, he had to do the right thing by reporting himself and cooperating with EOCO for any investigation. So how, then, do they treat him in this manner,” he added.
Atta Akyea’s comments follow earlier media reports that Baffour Awuah had been granted bail with three sureties.
The Manhyia South MP had voluntarily reported to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) at about 10 am to assist with investigations into alleged economic and organised crimes.
