Importers petition GRA over 28 containers at Tema Port

Importers have petitioned the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to investigate the alleged disappearance, movement, and emptying of 28 containers at the Tema Port.
The importers are demanding an urgent investigation into how the containers were allegedly removed or transferred without the knowledge of their owners.
In a petition to the Commissioner-General of the GRA dated September 29, 2026, the importers raised concerns about the handling of goods awaiting clearance at the port.
According to the petition, the affected containers were at various stages of the clearance process when the owners discovered the alleged irregularities. The importers provided the relevant bill of lading numbers to assist authorities in tracing the containers.

“Twenty-eight (28) containers at various stages of clearance were found to be empty, missing, transferred and/or moved out of the port without the knowledge of the owners,” the petition stated.
The matter reportedly came to light after some of the owners discovered their goods being unloaded from a container into a warehouse near the GHACEM area in Tema.
The importers said they subsequently reported the incident to the Tema Regional Police Command, which led to the arrest of some individuals allegedly connected to the case.
