'President Mahama's Reset Agenda is a disaster and scary' – Dr Ayew Afriye

The Member of Parliament for Effiduase-Asokore, Dr Nana Ayew Afriye, has described President John Dramani Mahama’s ‘Reset Agenda’ as a “disaster” and “scary.” Speaking to GhanaWeb on the sidelines of the NPP’s National Delegates Congress and National Officers’ Elections in Kumasi on October 3, 2026, Dr Ayew Afriye claimed that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) goes into the backyard of its own people to destroy their properties and attack its own members. “The resetting is a disaster and it’s scary what we are seeing as a product of resetting. It is too scary. They are even able to go to their own backyard and destroy their own NDC properties and attack their own people and cane them,” Dr Ayew noted. His comments follow the demolition of La Pleasure Beach and the adjoining Polo Beach Club on Friday, October 2, 2026, an exercise carried out by security personnel under National Security supervision. Dr Ayew Afriye said the government had unleashed the military to beat people in public, stressing that “NDC’s resetting is a territorial one, one of a kind that comes with force.” Dr Ayew Afriye sues Rev Owusu Bempah “Yesterday, the military were unleashed on the people, so the resetting agenda is a military one, a territorial one, one of a kind that comes with force, and it has no distinction between who is an opponent or not. Yesterday, they lashed them in the open,” he said. Dr Ayew Afriye described the recent military incident as something reminiscent of what happened in the 1950s and 1960s under military rule, stressing that President Mahama’s Reset Agenda was instead taking the country backwards. “This is something in the 60s, in the 50s. Ghana has advanced beyond there. So they reset us backwards and we need to be aggressive to move forward,” he explained. The Effiduase-Asokore MP also questioned whether the government could continue arresting people, including Members of Parliament. “You arrest everybody and even arrest MPs. I’m asking this question: Can you arrest all of us until even next year July, when the NDC is also set to contest elections? They should be ready to arrest Ghanaians from next year July up until December 2028,” he stated. He further criticised pastors and civil society organisations for what he described as their silence over the actions of the NDC. He urged them to maintain the same position if the opposition party eventually returns to government. “The pastors are not speaking, so the pastors should keep quiet and keep it forever and ever. The civil societies are not speaking; they should keep mute and keep mute forever and ever, and they should allow the political parties to be able to speak. So right from next year, we’ll speak for ourselves,” he added. AK/MASource: www.ghanaweb.com
